There’s no question that Whitney Houston’s mother, Cissy Houston, has gone through a lot in the past few years. For one, she lost her daughter on the 11th of February, 2011, and also her granddaughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, who died on the 26th of July, 2015.
And if the reports are true, Cissy, the Grammy-award winning Gospel singer, is now dealing with yet another tribulation. According to a report from Radar Online, the 84-year-old singer is battling dementia.
An insider who spoke with Radar Online said Cissy is fighting the early stages of dementia, including symptoms like repeating herself, and not being able to remember what she has said previously.
In a statement to Radar Online, it said that Cissy claims “she’s just getting old.” As it was previously reported, Cissy was indirectly involved with bombshell allegations earlier in the week.
Happy 100th Birthday Nelson Mandela! Whitney was a staunch supporter of the fight against apartheid, and during her modeling days, refused to work with any agencies that did business with pre-Democratic South Africa. In 1988, she was one of the headline acts in London celebrating Mandela’s 70th Birthday while he was still in prison. In October 1994, she finally met Mandela at The White House once he had become president and sang “Greatest Love of All” for him in The Rose Garden. The following month, she traveled to South Africa where she performed in Durban, Capetown, and Johannesburg in The Concert For A New South Africa. Proceeds from the concert were donated to South African children’s charities. Here she is pictured with President Mandela at a private meeting in Pretoria during that ’94 visit.
Whitney and her brother, Gary, supposedly were molested by their cousin, Dee Dee Warwick. The source who spoke with Radar claims Cissy is cognizant enough to realize the damage done to her family’s already fragile and hurt reputation.
She’s “very upset,” the insider explained. Previously, several publications alleged that Cissy Houston disowned Gary after she heard of the allegations; a shocking thing to do if the charges are really true.
While her health might be failing, nobody in the Houston family has confirmed Cissy’s current state. Nonetheless, with the addition of the charges against Gary, there’s no question the Houstons have gone through a lot of trauma over the years.
In some ways, the Houstons are similar to the Jacksons, although, the Jacksons arguably suffered worse at the hands of their father, Joe Jackson, who passed away on the 27th of June, after suffering a stroke and several heart attacks. The response to his passing has been mixed, to say the least, considering the long withstanding allegations of child abuse.
