Comedian Chris Rock has gone through a total transformation for his new Netflix special stand-up, Tamborine.
It has been nearly ten years since the star participated in a special and he appears to be more serious in his multi-million dollar come-back (reportedly $40 million).
Instead of the shiny suits that the comedian wore in shows like Bigger and Blacker and Never Scared, he showed up in black jeans, T-shirt, and sneakers.
There is a noticeable difference in the behavior of Rock while performing on stage. Instead of moving frantically around, his manners are now more subdued and calm.
Although Rock is not as turbulent as before, he showed that he can still be quite provocative.
In Tamborine, he tackled a long list of topics like the treatment black people in America, racism, guns, the KKK, bullying, President Donald Trump, and problems that arise when raising children.
He had this to say about Trump: “We need f*cking bullies, that is how Trump became president. We got rid of bullies, a real bully showed up, and nobody knew how to handle it.”
He went on to say: “Sh*t, the cast of ‘The Apprentice’ is running the world. Trump, the daughter, Omarosa, they run the world, man. Oh, sh*t is crazy.”
Rock concluded the segment on the president by saying: “Here’s the crazy thing, it could work out, Trump might work out. Yeah, I said it, Trump might work out. I mean, think about it this way, Bush was bad, so terrible that he gave us President Obama. You forget that sh*t do not you? Bush was so bad that people told themselves ‘hey, maybe this black guy has the answers to our problems.’ I think people overlook George Bush’s contributions to black history. George Bush is a black revolutionary, Malcolm X, Rosa Parks, George Bush.”
Despite the new style of Rock’s performance, he is still very amusing, and the public finds him attractive. The most frequently occurring act in his storytelling is entertaining his viewers by explaining why his long-term marriage came to an end.
The comedian was not only brutally honest about his infidelities in the past but also talked on multiple occasions about his excessive watching of movies for adults.
Rock also tried to mix up jokes and serious bits of advice during the second half of Tamborine by sharing his own experience from the rough divorce he had to go through.
About his many infidelities, while married, he confessed: “I was not a good husband. I was addicted to porn unless you a lawyer. You do not want to get divorced, let me tell you right now. I am talking from hell.”
Many find that Rock has lost his golden touch.
