According to Lily Allen in her brand new book, My Thoughts Exactly, Chris Martin and his former partner, Gwyneth Paltrow, tried to convince her to seek out counseling for her substance abuse problems, due to her life gradually falling apart as a result of drug use.
The 33-year-old singer wrote about her struggles with drug abuse in her new autobiography and recalled how, in 2014, while at a Halloween house party hosted in LA, she collapsed.
Reportedly, Allen dressed up as the music producer, Dr. Luke, and spent her night hanging out with Orlando Bloom, before she accidentally slammed her head into his and embarrassingly knocked herself unconscious.
Chris then took her home and left her a note asking for her to call him, so they could talk. At the time, she wrote, Gwyneth and Chris had just broken up, but they were “doing their unconscious coupling thing,” and they asked her to come out for lunch.
During a conversation with reporters from The Guardian published yesterday on the 15th of September, Allen said that Chris grabbed her like he was full of energy, and said, “Come on! I want to take you for a walk!”
The singer said Chris and Paltrow referred her to their marriage counselor, who specialized in dealing with all types of clients. “I didn’t go,” the actress remarked, “but it was the wake-up call I needed.”
What they did made her realize that she had a problem she needed to work through. As it was previously reported, Lily and her ex-husband Sam Cooper saw their relationship fall apart, and she suffered depression after having two children following a miscarriage.
According to Allen, she was addicted to drinking, drugs, and sex, and was acting in a way that was supposed to be liberated, but was actually emblematic of someone “trapped in a cycle.” Now that she’s past that part of her life, she is incredibly grateful for Chris and Gwyneth’s efforts.
