Cheryl Burke, the former star from Dancing with the Stars, will return to the dance competition! She first joined the competition back in 2006, and she has been writing about the season 23 return for People magazine. This confession comes after on the live premiere episode, which took place on Monday, two men stormed on the stage and protested the fact that Ryan Lochte participates in this season.
Burke recounts the moment and the happy experience they had before that. They had just ended their foxtrot number and they were both really proud of how they did it. However, this doesn’t mean they weren’t nervous about the competition, especially since they were second-to-last on Monday. As they were standing and listening to the feedback from judge Carrie Ann Inaba, someone walked in on the stage. The person was wearing a T-shirt that had Ryan Lochte’s last name crossed out.
Initially, Burke recounts that she thought everything was scripted and that nobody told them beforehand. However, she quickly got to her senses when the man started booing Lochte and calling him a liar. She immediately thought whether the stranger had a gun or not and was concerned with everybody’s safety, especially since there were lots of kids in the audience too.
Then Dave, a security guy whom Cheryl Burke knew for years, came in and approached the man. Her next concern was Ryan’s state. He obviously was in shock and almost crying, which also made her anxious. But she tried her best to cheer him up and to remember him why he was there in her first place, according to her declarations.
She explained that they have a very deep and powerful connection and that she’s almost like a motherly figure for him now. Perhaps this is what makes of them such a good team and this is what fuels their determination to move forward.
