After months of teasing ABC has finally given a name to the newest spinoff of the hit medical drama Grey’s Anatomy and released the first teaser trailer. Station 19 is a firehouse drama set just three blocks down from Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
Actress Jaina Lee Ortiz plays the lead character on Station 19, firefighter Andy Herrera, who is also the daughter of the station’s captain, played by Miguel Sandoval.
Also on board for Station 19 is Grey’s Anatomy veteran Jason George as Dr. Ben Warren, who’ll be trading in his scrubs for a hose as a rookie firefighter.

The trailer features several clips of Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo, who will appear in the pilot as Dr. Meredith Grey and is also an executive producer on Station 19.
Stacy McKee, who is an executive producer and longtime writer for Grey’s Anatomy, created the new spinoff and will serve as showrunner.
Powerhouse ABC producer Shonda Rhimes will, of course, all be an executive producer along with Grey’s Anatomy producer Betsy Beers.
Other cast members on Station 19 include Grey Damon, Barrett Doss, Alberto Frezza, Jay Hayden, Okieriete Onaodowan, and Danielle Savre.
The series was first announced in May 2017, with ABC promising to bring the same successful Grey’s Anatomy formula to the show.
According to ABC Studios president Patrick Moran, those qualities include “emotional storytelling, deep human connection, a high-stakes environment and strong and empowered women.”
Station 19 will be the second spinoff of Grey’s Anatomy after the 2007-2013 series Private Practice, which starred Kate Walsh as Dr. Addison Montgomery.
It’s worth noting the similarities between Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 and NBC’s Chicago franchise from Dick Wolf, specifically the shows Chicago Fire and Chicago Med.
Station 19 will premiere with a two-hour opening episode on Thursday, March 22 and will then run for ten episodes following Grey’s Anatomy each week.
