Kurt Sutter’s Sons of Anarchy spin-off, Mayans MC, will bring back a few familiar characters when it debuts on FX this fall. The show will see the return of Marcus Alvarez (Emilio Rivera) and Gemma Teller (Katey Sagal), opening up the possibility of future SOA cameos. But will Charlie Hunnam reprise his role as Jax Teller in the spin-off?
Hunnam has been largely silent about appearing on Mayans MC, until now. The former Sons of Anarchy star recently opened up about the chances of him reprising his role as the bad boy biker. Although fans would love to see Hunnam back on his Dyno, the actor shut down the rumors that we’ll see Jax in all his former glory.
“No, no… I had the deepest experience of my career coming out of that,” Hunnam explained.

According to ET Online, Hunnam said that he developed a close bond with Jax over the 7 years he was on Sons of Anarchy. Hunnam admitted that he did not realize how close he’d come to the character until the series was over.
After the Season 7 finale, Hunnam experienced a period of bereavement that last for weeks on end. Given his emotional ties to Jax, Hunnam never plans on resurrecting him, even if it is only for a short cameo on Mayans MC.
Hunnam also revealed that he has Jax’s cut on display at his home and visitors always ask if they can wear it. But the Papillon star never lets anyone put on the vest because he views it as a sacred object.
“So, I would never bring him back from the dead for something like that,” Hunnam shared, adding that Jax became “sacred” to him.

Mayans MC, meanwhile, follows the story of a young prospect in the motorcycle club named Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes (JD Pardo). The Sons of Anarchy spin-off is set well after the events in the original show and explores EZ’s journey to forging a new outlaw identity for himself and his family. The series stars Sarah Bolger and Edward James Olmos.
Mayans MC is set to premiere on FX on Sept. 4.
Charlie Hunnam is currently gearing up for the premiere of his newest movie, Papillon. Hunnam plays the lead character is movie, Henri “Papillon” Charriere, who famously escaped a French penal colony after a murder conviction in the 1930s. The film, which debuts later this week, also stars Rami Malek in a supporting role.
