Seventeen years ago, when Charlamagne was 22-years-old, a young woman named Jessica Reid, 15 at the time, accused him of sexual assault. According to the court documents, Charlamagne engaged “in penile/vaginal intercourse with a fifteen-year-old female child.”
The Blast reported that Reid was “uncooperative,” and felt that Charlamagne would never get a successful conviction. However, he did plead guilty to “contributing to the delinquency of a minor,” and received three years probation.
Unfortunately for Mr. Charlamagne, he is now dealing with that case once again, and Reid, now 32-years-old, is taking The Breakfast Club host all the way to the Supreme Court in South Carolina.
According to The Blast, Reid sent a letter to John S. Nichols, who was a deputy for the Supreme Court Justice of Disciplinary Counsel in South Carolina.
In the letter, Reid claims that the prosecutor wasn’t willing to defend her, which was, in Reid’s eyes, her responsibility. At the time, she was just a 15-year-old girl and was too intimidated to stand up for herself properly.
As a result, Reid is filing an official claim against the prosecution for allowing him to cut a plea deal, and avoiding the charges of sexual assault altogether.
Additionally, Ms. Reid claims that Charlamagne continues to accuse her of lying and attempting to ruin his life, both on the radio, as well as in his book and on social media. At the moment, it’s not likely the case will receive the time of day once again, due to prior agreements between the prosecution and the defence.
Representatives for Berkely County said they couldn’t reopen the case because they agreed to shut it for forever back in 2002. Charlamagne and his attorney said he was accused of the crime seventeen years ago, and he cooperated with the authorities completely. As a result, following the provision of DNA evidence, the charges were dropped.
