We have finally found out the reason why legendary rocker Tom Petty was taken away from us so early, at the age of only 66. Fans are still mourning the passing of the iconic artist, and it is definitely difficult to cope considering his death was so unexpected.
As you may already know, Petty seemed to be in a great condition throughout 2017, and he even had tour dates up until he was found lifeless in his own home on October 2.
The emergency team called at the time claimed the C.O.D. was a full cardiac arrest.
Now, we have learned the official cause of death, and it makes this so much more tragic.
The LA County Coroner announced that the man was killed by a massive accidental overdose on drugs!
Apparently, the ‘mixed drug toxicity’ caused him organ failure.
The full autopsy report shows that the singer was on a number of different pain medicine.
The list includes citalopram, Fentanyl patches, temazepam, oxycodone, acetyl fentanyl, alprazolam, and despropionyl fentanyl.
The array of medicine was prescribed for a fractured hip and knee problems as well as emphysema and other medical issues.
Sadly enough, the man refused to take a break and rest.
Instead, he continued his tour despite the fact that the strenuous activities on stage were causing his fractured hip to get a lot worse.
On the day he died, the injury had become a full-on break.
That being said, it is believed that this is the reason why he decided to use more medicine than prescribed, causing him to overdose.
Tom’s family released an official statement about the cause of death revelation saying: ‘As a family, we recognize that this report could spark another discussion on the opioid crisis and we feel it’s a necessary discussion. We hope in some way or another, this report can save lives.’
‘Many people overdosing start with a legitimate injury or simply don’t understand the potency and deadly nature of these medications.’
‘On a positive note, we know for certain now that he went painlessly and exhausted after doing what he loved – performing live with his rock band for his loyal fans on the biggest tour of forty plus years career.’
