The singer who started the awards show seemed to climb the stage with her baby girl Kulture in her arms. However, much to the disappointment of fans who are still to see any glimpse of the newborn, the bundle of joy was just the moon man award.
However, the crowd did appreciate the joke as well as the others she delivered.
The Bodak Yellow rapper, who slayed a pixie haircut at the MTV Music Video Awards changed from the magenta off the shoulder dress she walked the matching carpet in, into a red strapless one as she kicked off the show.
The prestigious event marks the female emcee’s very first appearance since welcoming baby Kulture with husband Offset at the start of last month.
She has, however, been pretty open about her experience as a new mom on social media.
About motherhood, Cardi explained that ‘it’s something that no matter how many books you’ve read—because I read books for babies, and, you know, a lot of my friends gave me advice and everything—you have to have a baby to see.’
Sure enough, the rapper had no choice but to pull out of her previously scheduled world tour with Bruno Mars.
‘As of today, I have decided I will not be joining Bruno Mars on tour. I thought that after giving birth to my daughter, six weeks would be enough time for me to recover mentally and physically,’ she posted a week ago.
Cardi also made it very clear that she was as disappointed as everyone else but asked fans to ‘understand that this decision has been the hardest to make but I have to do what’s best for myself and my baby!’
