2017 was definitely Cardi B’s year. The former exotic dancer went from being an Instagram and reality star to knocking Taylor Swift from her number one spot. Now that the chaos has calmed down, the 25-year-old rap songstress is getting candid about what the spotlight is like.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Cardi puts all of her insecurities out there. She discusses everything from the way she grew up to the hate she receives online.
The most predictable issue that the “Bodak Yellow” rapper touches on is the pressure to make more music.
Much like new artists that seemingly shoots to number one overnight, Cardi doesn’t want to be a one-hit wonder.
She explains that music isn’t much fun to her anymore because of the expectations people have for her to release an album with hits just as big as “Bodak Yellow.”
Cardi explains: “It’s not as fun to do music. My mind doesn’t flow as free ’cause I have so much on my mind.”
As far as if her style is going to change or not, you can expect to hear her rap about the same things that made her a top-charting artist.
She explains: “It’s so sad to say, and I don’t want to be the one to say it, but you gotta follow the trend. This generation loves to get high. They love to be on drugs. This is why they on that shit: They don’t want to think about what you’re saying.”
Luckily, Cardi isn’t alone and will never be again now that she is engaged to be married to one of the most poppin’ men in hip-hop –Offset of Migos.
The power couple bounces ideas off of each other and even feature in each other’s songs. With the help of her man and her already popular persona, Cardi B should do just fine in the music business regardless of her worries.
