Bill Cosby was convicted of three counts of aggravated indecent assault in April and now faces a possible sentence of spending the rest of his life behind bars. His wife of 54 years, Camille Cosby, 74, has stood by his side as numerous women came forward to share horrific accounts of Cosby drugging and raping them.
On Thursday, May 3, 2018, Camille Cosby came to her husband’s defense once again by releasing a document to the public where she accused the media of demonizing him, referred to the justice system as a lynch mob, and compared the 80-year-old disgraced actor with Emmett Till. Clearly, Camille Cosby has linked Bill Cosby’s conviction with his race.
Camille Cosby’s statement is going viral with many people sharing their responses and opinions. NPR has the full statement online available to read. It is three pages long.
The racist comparisons between Camille’s view of the case and the August 28, 1955 lynching of Emmett Till has taken the Internet by storm. Many people have shared their disappointment that Camille has turned the case and conviction against her husband into a racial issue rather than standing with his victims.
Wow. Camille Cosby compares prosecution and conviction of her husband Bill Cosby to the racism-inspired murder of Emmett Till. Guess that answers any questions about where she stands… https://t.co/oTUDcczqlE

Camille Cosby also referred to “mob justice” as being the reason for Cosby’s conviction as opposed to the testimonies of the victims, Bill Cosby’s own words and statements and evidence the prosecution presented.
“Once again, an innocent person has been found guilty based on an unthinking, unquestioning, unconstitutional frenzy propagated by the media and allowed to play in a supposed court of law.
“This is mob justice, not real justice. This tragedy must be undone. Not just for Bill Cosby, but for the country,” she wrote.
Some of the responses to Camille’s public statement are harsh and accusatory towards here. While some people have credited her with being a faithful wife who has dutifully stood by her husband, others accuse her of being complicit in her husband’s predatory behavior.
As many of the accusations against Bill Cosby involved allegations of assaults that took place inside his home, there are others who say Camille Cosby was fully aware of the abuse.
What do you think about Camille Cosby’s public statement? Do you believe the media demonized Bill Cosby? Do you agree or disagree with the guilty verdict?
