Camilla Parker Bowles is maneuvering to become Queen once her husband, Prince Charles, takes the throne. The Duchess of Cornwall recently attended an event at Buckingham Palace where she wore a tiara fit for a Queen, sending a clear message to the people of Britain that she intends to take the highest title alongside her husband.
The Daily Star reports that Camilla greeted royal onlookers at a diplomatic reception at Buckingham Palace this week. Camilla was nothing but smiles throughout the event, in which she wore a massive diamond-filled tiara that dwarfed anything in sight. Camilla arrived at the palace with her husband.

Prince William and Kate Middleton showed up later in their own car. While Camilla was making a statement with her tiara, Middleton donned a much smaller headpiece known as the Cambridge Lover’s Knot, which is a part of Princess Diana’s jewelry collection.
The reception occurred after Camilla met with charity workers in London. The Duchess met with a number of workers, including some who were dressed in hilarious costumes. Camilla hasn’t commented on why she chose to wear such a massive tiara, but it is clear that she wants the title of queen when her husband sits on the throne.
According to the Daily Star, the official position of Clarence House is that Camilla will take on the title of Princess Consort when Queen Elizabeth II dies and Charles takes the throne. Charles is currently first in line for the crown, though Queen Elizabeth is expected to serve until her death.

If Camilla wants to be named Queen, then she will need the approval of Charles’ two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. The only problem with that plan is William and Harry aren’t likely to give their blessings.
William and Harry have a complicated relationship with Camilla. As royal followers are aware, Camilla had an affair with Charles when he was married to William and Harry’s mother, Princess Diana.
The cheating scandal led to a messy divorce and Camilla and Charles officially started dating two years after Diana died in a tragic car accident in 1997. The couple finally tied the knot in 2005, though tensions remained between Camilla and the boys. It’s unclear how good the family gets along behind closed doors, but Camilla will need to do a lot of persuading if she wants William and Harry to call her Queen.

While Camilla positions herself to become Queen, there are also rumors that Charles will abdicate. It is unlikely that Charles will step aside and let William become King, especially considering how long he has waited for his time on the throne.
Even still, Camilla was reportedly angered when she first heard the rumors and has been pushing Charles to fight for his right to the crown. This could be one reason why Camilla wants to be named Queen, but it is unclear if that will actually happen once Charles leads the monarch.
Buckingham Palace has not released an official statement on the latest rumors.
