Bridget Malcolm, the Victoria’s Secret supermodel, is happy with the way she is. The 26-year-old model took to Instagram on Tuesday to discuss the pressures she faced as a young woman and primarily as an icon of the fashion world.
She wrote on her account that someone had told her she needed to lose weight even though she was rail thin. Despite her figure, Bridget claims that the pressure to fit a certain ideal was always mounting and self-esteem crushing.
As you may know, Malcolm, the Australian native, has written about body-issues in the past. In one blog post, the model reflected on how she decided one day to make peace with her image.
As a last resort, she threw away all of her scales, measuring tape, and anything she could use to check the size of her body. She took off all of her selfies from the gym and deleted the “progress” shots from her Instagram account.
It became of paramount importance to realize her body was beautiful just the way it is, in all its shapes and sizes. However, it proved to be more challenging than initially expected.
A colleague once told her there were two ways of living life, the hard way – which reaps more substantial awards – and the easy way which is more superficial and appealing to base desires.
Nevertheless, she realized that focusing on her body was the easy route. The more difficult path was to ignore standards of beauty and erase her focus on the ego.
Since then, she no longer talks about body problems with her other friends and feels no need to look in the mirror. Even though the journey isn’t always easy to undertake, she’s recognized that she doesn’t have to deal with comments from social media trolls. She told one, “I have gained weight. And I don’t give a f*ck about it.”
