Girl’s Trip star and comedian Tiffany Haddish has had anything but an easy life. She’s been through so many struggles and managed to triumph and is setting the industry ablaze with her quick wit and charm. In her new memoir, “The Last Black Unicorn”, she makes some shocking revelations about the reality of her past.
The star grew up in South Central Los Angeles and went through many incredibly tumultuous events since she was a child. The first being that she couldn’t read or write until she was in the 9th grade. Despite her late start, she still managed to take AP classes.
When she couldn’t read, she reveals that she was able to get around the rules and had other people read certain things for her. Throughout her adolescence, her mother, stepfather, and grandmother called her stupid.
Haddish also details terrible abuse that she endured at the hands of her mother. Haddish explains that her mother suffered a terrible head injury when Haddish was still very young and after that, her mother became incredibly cruel to her. She started physically abusing her when she was nine years old.
After she was placed in foster care, she was molested, made to cook, clean and exposed to marijuana.
Haddish is upfront about not realizing that what she went through was molestation because of the way the man manipulated and lied to her. She felt, at the time, that he hadn’t ever hurt her even though what he was doing was deeply troubling and inappropriate.
Haddish also suffered much abuse in her first marriage. She ended up marrying and divorcing the same man twice and they had a highly toxic and abusive relationship. One that resulted in her suffering a miscarriage because of all the pain and stress that her body was put under.
At one point she even went to the police to ask that she be put in jail because if she went back home, she’d kill her husband. They noticed the cuts, bruises, and scraps on her and sent her to the hospital. They then went to arrest her husband.
Such painful stories from a woman who has defied the odds, made people laugh and is only going up from here.
