It seems that congrats are in order for Brandy! She became the first artist in history from the 90s to have their discography streamed 1.5 billion times on digital platforms.
The Shade Room reported the great news captioning their post with the following words:
‘Okay congrats #Brandy! Which album from her is y’all favorite?’
‘I find it ironic that most of the people saying Brandy was bigger are OLDER and the Aaliyah defenders are all people who were babies or not alive when she was alive! lmaooooo,’ someone commented next to the post on Instagram.
‘That’s because these new artists have an advantage with streaming. We bought albums and listened to them over and over, some songs still to this day. But the artist gets no streaming credit for us listening to songs on the album we bought, and I know we’ve played these artists albums billions of times collectively. Today’s artist lives in a time where people buy streaming services instead of full albums offline regularly. Crazy how the industry doesn’t try to make up for this,’ another follower wrote in the comments section.
‘Brandy was WAY bigger than Aaliyah….Aaliyah was not a pop artist! She was an R&B artist who didn’t crossover until the VERY end of her career! Brandy crossed over immediately and she ran the r&b charts as well! And she had a HIT show! Aaliyah really became big after she died….her legacy and newer fans makes her seem more important than she was! But I CLEARLY remember “One In A Million” struggling to sell when it first dropped! It eventually picked up but Aaliyah was not what these kids think she was! Brandy on the other hand was a HUGE deal! “Never Say Never” was a MONSTER album! Hit after hit after hit! Grammys! AMA’s! Multi-platinum! Huge singles and videos!’ someone else gushed over Brandy as well.
