Bradley Cooper is both an actor and a father, and unavoidably, either side of him influences the other. The star opened up about how being a dad has changed the way he makes career decisions.
Cooper confessed to NPR that ‘I guess having a kid, and having a family — which is a miracle and something I have always dreamt of — has opened me up even more, to the day, and to be present.’
As fans know, the actor and his girlfriend Irina Shayk have a one-year-old daughter named Lea together.
According to Bradley, ever since welcoming the bundle of joy, he has been much more careful about what kind of projects he chooses to be part of.
‘I spent about fifteen years going from movie to movie. And then I hit 39 and stopped and said, ‘What do I truly want to do?’ I want to tell Joseph Merrick’s story in The Elephant Man. I did that for one year. Then this one came to me, A Star Is Born, and I spent the next four years doing that,’ he tells the outlet.
The main plan is to always sign on to movies that he is genuinely excited to do and believes in, therefore being more selective.
About his directorial debut, A Star Is Born, he said: ‘The one thing I know in the future is: It is worth the time to dedicate, even if one piece of art comes out of it in half a decade, it would still be incredible as long as I can feel like it is the movie that I wanted to make, which is this movie.’
He also stars alongside Lady Gaga in it, and the actor made it very clear that they got close right away.
One of the things he believes helped them bond is that they were ‘very loved as children. And when I meet people who have had a similar upbringing, I can see it in them. And that is the thing I want my daughter to have — I always want her to feel loved.’
