Boyd Tinsley, the former violinist for the Dave Matthews Band, has found himself at the center of a sexual misconduct scandal following the accusations from one of his former bandmates from Crystal Garden. James Frost-Winn, the trumpet player for Crystal Garden, accused Boyd of sexual harassment.
The 54-year-old musician, Tinsley, said he is “truly hurt” by what was written about him on a blog yesterday. If only the reporter were to reach out to him first, the other side of the story could’ve been heard.
Tinsley said he would continue to fight against the false accusations at no matter the cost, and assumed the only motivation for the claims are monetary.
In his statement, the violinist said the allegations have been incredibly embarrassing for him, his family, as well as the rest of the band. According to the report, Frost-Winn filed a $9 million lawsuit against him after claiming that Boyd made unwanted and sexually suggestive comments.
According to the trumpet player, he met Tinsley back in 2007 when he was just an 18-year-old kid. They went on to form the band together in July 2015.
Frost-Winn said it was super cool to work with him at first, and they had been friends for “eight years.” He said it was great because he knew a “down-to-earth celebrity guy,” and obviously wouldn’t turn down an offer to be in a band with him.
Nevertheless, over time, Boyd’s behavior toward him changed dramatically and became sexual and inappropriate. Frost-Winn said that Boyd masturbated next to him while he slept.
Moreover, he made sexually suggestive and explicit comments on a number of occasions. Frost-Winn had no choice but to quit. The Dave Matthews Band released a statement saying they had no knowledge of the allegations, and they were “shocked.” However, they added that Boyd hasn’t been a member of the Dave Matthews Band for a long time.
