Country superstar Blake Shelton caused quite the reaction this past week when he tweeted that retirement may be in his near future. Fans now want to know if he will continue to make new music or will he walk away during the hottest stretch of his career to live life as a stepdad?
Taste of Country reports that Shelton hinted at retiring while watching a sports documentary about Arizona Cardinals coach Bruce Arians, who recently retired after 42 years of coaching. He said that one of the biggest reasons for his decision was to spend more time with his family.
“Watching @BruceArians life story NFL channel. Damn proud to call you my friend coach,” Shelton tweeted. “Enjoy your retirement!!! I’ll be joining you REAL soon brother!!!”
The fact that he wrote “real soon” and put it in capital letters caused an intense reaction from his followers; with some begging him to make more music, while others encouraged him to take all the time he needs to enjoy life with Gwen Stefani and her boys.
Shelton has seemingly settled into a blissful domestic life with the Make Me Like You singer, with the couple spending the holidays together and enjoying time both at her Los Angeles home and his Oklahoma ranch.
The 41-year-old has hinted at retirement before, but he recently re-signed with Warner Brothers – the label where he has spent his entire career – and CEO John Esposito told Billboard that Shelton would play out his career under the new contract.
The Voice coach was the most-played country artist on the radio in 2017, with I’ll Name the Dogs becoming his 25th number one hit. This year, he will be on the road with Brett Eldredge, Carly Pearce, and Trace Adkins for the Country Music Freaks tour.
But, before he hits the road, Shelton is spending time with Stefani and her boys at his Oklahoma ranch, and E! News is reporting that he is teaching 11-year-old Kingston how to drive.
Stefani shared a video on her Instagram story this past week featuring Kingston, Shelton, and a truck in the mud. As Stefani gets out of her car to see what is going on, Kingston says, “I did not drive that in there, no I didn’t.”
But then Shelton reveals that he was teaching Kingston how to drive and he “took off driving like a maniac into the middle of the frozen pond.” Stefani couldn’t help but laugh.
According to US Weekly, Shelton, Stefani, and her boys have been enjoying many recent outdoor adventures and documenting them on social media.
The group also attended church together on Christmas Eve, with mega-fan Nicole from Shefani Archive, a website dedicated to the superstar couple, capturing video of them leaving the service.
