It was bound to happen eventually, and this past weekend Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton finally had their first public run-in since their 2015 divorce during the Country Music Awards in Las Vegas. While performing her song Keeper of The Flame, witnesses say that Shelton and his girlfriend Gwen Stefani were in Lambert’s “direct line of sight.” And, the couple – who have been together since October 2015 – “sat still and did not exchange glances or words with one another the entire time.”
But the awkwardness apparently didn’t stop there. When Lambert accepted the award for Song of the Year, she explained to the audience that she recorded her album The Weight of These Wings shortly after she and Shelton split, but she didn’t make eye contact with the 41-year-old singer who was sitting in the front row.
“Thank you guys so much for sharing my broken heart with me,” the singer said before giving the microphone to her “good friends from Texas” Jack Ingram and Jon Randall, with whom she co-wrote the award-winning Tin Man.
“I mean, how many times have we seen The Wizard of Oz? Something that everyone knows what the Tin Man represents; cold, and empty, and loneliness, and heartless. And it just opened my eyes to it even more, going through pain myself,” Lambert shared in a radio interview.
The win was Lambert’s 30th, making her the most-awarded artist in ACM history, passing Brooks & Dunn. Then, she later won Female Vocalist of the Year, and that brought her total up to 31.
According to Life & Style, the crowd was on Lambert’s side, because during the show there were many moments where people socialized, but Shelton and Stefani remained in their seats, and no one approached them.
The couple still seemed to enjoy their night out together and are reportedly planning on tying the knot soon. Sources say that Stefani also wants to have a baby with Shelton, and at 48 she is healthier than ever.
The Hollaback Girl recently opened up about her and Shelton’s differing musical pasts during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, but they do have one thing in common. She says that Shelton dated a girl for three months that had pictures of Stefani plastered all over her bedroom walls.
Stefani thought that was weird, and then Kimmel suggested she should find pictures of Shelton’s ex to plaster all over her room. The mom of three thought that idea was “gross.”
She says that she recently introduced Shelton to ska and reggae, but they don’t listen to it often. Stefani says that they cross over musically with yacht rock 70’s love songs and they both love the band Bread. They also both love No Doubt music, and at an ACM Awards after-party, they belted out a duet of Hella Good.
Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani are usually an open book when it comes to their relationship, but they have yet to mention their run-in with Lambert.
