Bill Maher recently doubled down on his original comments two weeks ago when he said that he hoped for a recession so that the population would turn on the president, Donald Trump. During his New Rules segment, Maher said that a “recession is a survivable event,” and what the president is doing to the US democracy is not.
Maher continued, stating that every time a Republican is in office, the economy goes through a recession, which is a survivable event.
While it’s true, America can last through an economic downturn, his comments seem to miss the point, because many people aren’t in the greatest position to go through a recession. It’s easy for someone who makes millions of dollars a year to survive a recession, while average Americans can’t even afford a sudden $500 hospital bill.
Critics of the Real Time With Bill Maher host explain that comments such as these, are what inspires Americans to vote for Donald Trump in the first place, as they feel increasingly alienated by political pundits who appear to hate them.
According to Maher, another recession is inevitable, for a number of different reasons. Mostly that Trump’s administration just passed a tax cut for the rich, relaxed regulations on banks “allowing for the gambling of our money,” and sabotaged the affordable care act.
Maher also took aim at the social media personality, Mike Cernovich, who pointed out that suicide rates often go up during economic downturns. Mike accused Maher of wanting Americans to die.
According to Maher, Trump is like “great sex in a bad relationship,” and eventually Americans would ask themselves, “what the f*ck am I doing with this person?”
As it was previously reported, during an episode of Bill Maher’s show, he explicitly stated he was hoping for a recession for the sake of removing the president, whom Bill, obviously, loathes.
