After much speculation and rumors, it has been confirmed that Beyonce will star as beloved lioness Nala, in the Disney live-action adaptation of the classic film The Lion King.
Beyonce joins Donald Glover, Seth Rogan, Alfre Woodard and Chiwetel Ejiofor in the star-studded cast.
The superstar posted the news on her Facebook and the entire internet seemed to reverberate from the confirmation.
Glover, who has had quite an impressive couple of years, with hit tv show Atlanta, and highly coveted film roles will play adult Simba. Beyonce will play adult Nala who is Simba’s friend turned love. Chiwetel Ejiofor plays the malicious and dubious Uncle Scar while James Earl Jones will reprise his role of Simba’s loving father Mufasa.
It looks like Beyonce turned down a role in the live-action version of Beauty and the Beast reportedly because it wasn’t a big enough part. Playing the other half of the king of the jungle in The Lion King may have sat a bit better with the superstar.
The film will start production sometime next year and is set to be released July 19, 2019. The Lion King did amazing numbers when it was first released in 1994, so much so that it was the highest-grossing animated film for 16 years in a row until being topped by Toy Story 3 in 2010. It is certainly a classic film in many households.
It’s also a really sweet thought that Beyonce’s three young children, twins Sir and Rumi were born in June, who join older sister Blue, will get to enjoy the remake of a childhood classic with their mother in a prominent role. Beyonce, since having the twins, has been very quiet and hush hush about certain projects she has been working on. She had to cancel portions of her Lemonade tour as well as reschedule her Coachella appearance because of her pregnancy.
The Beyhive is taking this to mean that there will be much coming on the horizon for the star as she gets back into superstar shape and creativity seems to loom. Count this as one of the first official announcements of her plans to hit the ground running as a woman who juggles a personal life and a sensational career.
