What was probably a coping mechanism for Barbra Streisand has turned into an online debate. The legendary singer and actress cloned her late dog and the internet has a lot of feelings about it.
Streisand told Variety in an interview that she lost her dog of 14 years in 2017. She successfully cloned the deceased dog not once, but twice. Her two new puppies are named Miss Scarlett and Miss Violet.
What was a seemingly sweet reveal turned into a hot mess very quickly. Some people felt that she should have adopted other dogs.
“The animal shelters are full of pets about to be put down and you decide to clone a dog?!??!? Twice!?!?!?” one person rang in.
There was some thinking more about the financial side of things. Cloning cost between $50,000 to $100,000 a pop.
One user commented: “Send in the clowns. She’s a moron. Over the hill, ugly looking gob of spit with nothing to do but spend her billions on what? Cloned dogs? Crap, why doesn’t this liberal has been give some of her money to the schools that need it the most. Duh. I really like Mr. Brolin. Too bad he has to wake up to “that” scary face every morning.”
Another person said: “Dying/starving people all over the world, millions of abandoned animals needing a home & this is how she throws away money. Absolutely disgusting.”
As usual, some fans jumped in to defend her, writing: “For as much as helping the poor is a great thing, it really is up to her how she wants to spend her money. Better to be honest about not helping than to just give enough to get a good tax write off and be doing it for the tax write off only. FYI, there are plenty of regular people too who give absolutely nothing, so it’s truly unfair to expect only one part of the population to help the poor. The poor too could help out, not with money but in other ways.”
Cloning has always been a very controversial subject. However, advances in science are making it more of a reality that is no longer limited to sheep or cows.
People who could afford it have been using the option as a way to connect with their pet who they’ve grown attached to for years now.
What is your opinion on Barbra’s decision? Do you think it was selfish or immoral? Do you think people are making it into a bigger deal than what it is?
