According to new reports, Avicii’s alcoholism played a crucial role in his recent backing away from DJing on the stage. Previously, the 28-year-old artist spoke with multiple publications, including GQ and Time, where he admitted alcohol and partying was taking a toll on his health.
During an interview with Time in 2013, the infamous Swedish disk-jokey revealed he had suffered from pancreatitis due to excessive alcohol consumption at the age of 21-years-of-age, definitely an unusual condition for someone in that stage of their life.
The DJ admitted, “…I wasn’t feeling good doing that to myself,” regarding the incessant partying and drinking. Avicii explained that he loved DJing and producing music, but his mind and body couldn’t handle the decadent lifestyle.
EDM and party culture are intermingled, the two are like peas in a pod, however, the health effects of said lifestyle are too much to bear, a fact the DJ struggled to reconcile.
As it was previously reported, Avicii “retired” from touring to work on his health, and at the time, the world wasn’t sure as to the exact reasons for his hiatus.
However, multiple sources confirmed it had a lot to do with the continuous drinking and substance abuse. The artist explained to GQ that he “got into a habit,” and began relying on alcohol as a social crutch, one which gave him self-confidence.
Avicii died at the age of 28-years-old yesterday, and the entertainment world is still reeling from his passing.
During the same 2013 interview with Time Magazine, Avicii admitted he was more of an introverted person and wasn’t accustomed to the chaos of touring and the EDM lifestyle. He’ll be deeply missed, and we send out our condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.
