Asia Argento lost her job. The Italian actress was supposed to work with the cast and crew of X-Factor Italy, but they fired her following the allegations that she committed statutory rape. Multiple outlets reported that the XXX star, Asia, 42, slept with Jimmy Bennett, at the time when he was just 17-years-old.
Producers of the series haven’t commented publicly, but sources who spoke with Deadline said Argento had filmed multiple episodes, which will still go on air.
The series was to begin on the 6th of September, on Sky Uno. As you may know, Argento was one of the very first women to accuse Harvey Weinstein of raping her when she was just 21-years-old.
However, in a new report from The New York Times, the publication obtained text messages and documents which showed that the actress allegedly paid of her former co-star, Jimmy Bennett, after he threatened to go public with the accusations.
Reportedly, Asia convinced her then-boyfriend, Anthony Bourdain, to pay Jimmy a sum of $380,000, in exchange for his silence.
On the 21st of August, Argento denied all of the charges, and said she “strongly denies and opposes the content of the New York Times” article. She explained the situation as a friend helping out another friend who was merely going through financial turmoil.
Some accused Argento of deferring to the late Bourdain, after she stated the deceased celebrity chef “insisted” that the matter be handled privately. Asia said the money was given to Jimmy so he wouldn’t “interfere” anymore in their lives.
In a statement two days later to Us Weekly, Jimmy said he feared coming out with his story because he was a teenage boy at the time, and he didn’t want to become a part of “the public narrative.” The actor said that there was a “stigma” for a teenager, especially a boy, to accuse another of sexual assault.
