Ashley Graham has always been very outspoken about her body and has been a huge advocate for women embracing how they look and feel. As one of the most widely recognizable plus-sized models in the industry, she has a certain reach and voice when it comes to body positivity and doing away with the old-fashioned and archaic notions of body shaming.
Despite these easily understood truths about her industry, society, and celebrity as a whole, she isn’t beyond certain speculation and criticism as she lives so much of her life in the spotlight.
Earlier this week, Graham posted a video on Instagram of her dancing in a well fitted, pink bikini.
The beauty looks absolutely stunning as she does a quick pan of the upper half of her body.
A specific comment was left on the video which complimented Graham’s “baby bump.”
Graham responded quickly to correct the false assumption by saying “that’s just called fat.”
The idea that when some celebrities have a bit of a stomach, or have put on a few pounds, are pregnant is actually quite ludicrous and potentially damaging as pregnancy can be a very tricky and sensitive subject.
In recent years, Rihanna and Anne Hathaway, have both faced speculation of pregnancy when it was mere weight gain that caused fans to believe they were pregnant when that wasn’t the case.
Graham has been married to her husband Justin Ervin for eight years and the pair currently do not have any children.
Several of Graham’s fans came to her defense in the comments stating that her stomach didn’t at all resemble a baby bump while others stated she looked curvaceous and beautiful.
While some have an issue with the word ‘fat,’ likely due to years of a poor and damaging connotation, the presence of fat doesn’t need to be shunned, corrected or automatically linked to pregnancy.
