Anytime a baby is born into the Duggar family, there are a plethora of pics all over social media – and often a magazine photo shoot – to introduce the newest member of the brood to their fans. Reproduction is the main part of their brand, so the lack of photos from Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard of their second son, Samuel, has caused some suspicion. Are the former Counting On stars hiding a serious health condition from their fans?
There are more reasons than Samuel’s social media absence to make fans wonder if there could be something wrong with his health. Shortly after giving birth, Duggar posted a cryptic, Christian-based message on Instagram that doesn’t sound like it came from a happy mom who just welcomed a new baby into her family.
She wrote, “It’s easy to praise God when things are going great, but do we continue to count our blessings when things aren’t going like we planned?”
Does this mean that her newest baby has some serious health problems, or could it be a reference to her own struggles? Some of her followers suspect she could be suffering from postpartum depression, while others speculate that she had an emergency hysterectomy after Samuel’s birth. That could be an incredibly difficult situation to deal with when your family is essentially a fertility cult.
Now, new pictures of Samuel (or as his family calls him, SamSam) indicate that the infant could have a genetic disorder.
Fans who have been curious about the six-month-old point out that his lack of a prominent bridge on his nose could mean a disorder at birth, and that could explain the silence from the Duggar family during the weeks after he arrived.
His nose doesn’t mean he has some kind of condition, but fans have noticed he spends a lot of time on the floor – even for a baby. Often, it is without a blanket, which infuriates many of Duggar’s followers.
This all could be just a parenting fail, but until Samuel’s parents speak up about what is going on with their son, the rumors will continue.
Duggar and Dillard will not appear in the upcoming season of Counting On after TLC fired Dillard for his transphobic comments on Twitter against transgender teen Jazz Jennings. Even though the network only fired Dillard, he has said that his family will not be returning to the show, either.
Dillard never apologized for his comments but instead has defended them by saying that his views aren’t different from most Americans.
Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard have not commented on the rumors surrounding Samuel’s health.
