When it comes to their bodies, women are largely criticized and the victim of unkind comments. This is even more magnified in the world of celebrity. It’s virtually impossible for a woman’s weight to fluctuate without the masses talking about her “letting herself go” or wondering if she might possibly be pregnant.
Actress Anne Hathaway wants to preemptively do away with those naysayers and commenters by addressing the fact that she is putting on some weight for a role.
As someone who has been criticized in the past and is well aware of what women in the industry, and outside of it, go through in regards to their weight, Hathaway made a post directly addressing this.
Body shaming is a common thing that occurs and to get out in front of it, she took to social media in order to actively combat the backlash she’s already anticipating.
The Academy Award-winning actress is no stranger to criticism and dislike. In fact, there was a time about five years ago where many people took issue with her.
She was condemned for being too outspoken, too showy and too pretentious.
This was a massive departure for her as at one time she was thought to potentially be America’s next sweetheart coming off her success in films like Princess Diaries. Yet, her rising star hasn’t been without its upheavals.
While Hathaway typically writes that period of time off as her being a victim of ridiculous “haters”, she does understand that self-reflection and adjustments are sometimes necessary for a person.
Last year she said that how other people feel about her doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with her personally but if she has heard something valid that resonates with her, she’d like to be able to work on that part of herself.
Either way, those outside sources don’t seem to be slowing her down as she’s still a household name in films and an even more recognizable face.
Hathaway is in the new female lead and driven film Ocean’s Eight, which also stars Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, and Rihanna among others.
