Since Josh Duggar’s molestation and cheating scandal back in 2015, we don’t get many updates about his wife Anna Duggar and their five kids anymore. The former 19 Kids & Counting stars have all but disappeared, and they are not part of the family’s spinoff Counting On.
But after taking a two-year hiatus, Anna returned to social media earlier this year, and every once in a while, she will post about her kids and give fans a glimpse into their lives. And in her most recent post, she shared an update about their youngest son, Mason.
Pancakes for a Saturday brunch may seem ordinary, but today at our house it is a big deal! It is Mason’s first time to have (dairy-free) pancakes! Yup, you may have guessed it…Lil Mason has a milk protein (aka dairy) allergy. Allergies showed up at 2 weeks, and caused us to switch to formula while momma cut dairy and other potential allergy causing foods out of my diet (i.e. gluten, corn, soy, eggs, nuts, chicken, & nightshade foods). Thankfully as we added things back into my diet we discovered Mason was only allergic to dairy, and by January he was back to 100% nursing and thriving — reaching 20lbs at 6 months! Sometimes in life we are faced with a mountain that seems impossible. We pray asking God to move the mountain, yet God wants us to climb it! Even though it is unexpected (and hard work) it is so worth it, God’s grace is sufficient for each step of the way! To have a mountain top experience you must first climb the mountain! So friends, whatever you’re facing today keep doing the next right thing — go take the next step! It’s totally worth it to keep going when you know you’re on the right track! P.S. Any tips for a good dairy-free pizza? ?? #littleduggars
Anna posted a video of Mason eating pancakes and wrote, “Pancakes for a Saturday brunch may seem ordinary, but today at our house it is a big deal! It is Mason’s first time to have dairy-free pancakes!”
She went on to reveal that the one-year-old is allergic to dairy, and it was so severe that she had to stop breastfeeding temporarily. She says his allergies showed up when he was two weeks old, so she had to switch him to formula while she cut dairy out of her diet. But, she also had to cut out other potential allergy-causing foods like gluten, corn, soy, eggs, nuts, and chicken, and then slowly added things back to her diet to figure out what Mason was allergic to.
It turned out that he was only allergic to dairy, and by the time he was four months old, she had returned to breastfeeding. Anna says that Mason was healthy and thriving — reaching 20 pounds at six months old.
Now that he is just days away from turning one, he has started eating solids, and that is why eating pancakes was such a big deal for the little guy.
Friday we traveled 436 miles to reach Waco and had a wonderful visit at the Silos! Our kids had fun playing corn toss with dad, while mom went shopping! A group of us had an amazing lunch at Magnolia Table. After lunch was finished, Mason was ready for a nap and mom was ready for coffee (a mom’s nap in cup!). Thanks Chip & Joanna for your investment in Waco… our family made many special memories! #Waco
Anna says it was a difficult process figuring out what Mason was allergic to, but sometimes in life, we face a mountain that seems impossible. And, she says that if we pray and ask God to move that mountain, sometimes he wants us to climb it. Anna says that even though it was unexpected and a lot of hard work, it was worth it. And, she added that God’s grace was sufficient every step of the way.
The mom of five also shared some encouragement with her followers to help them climb their own mountains, and then she asked for help with finding a recipe for dairy-free pizza.
Earlier this summer Anna Duggar posted about the “wonderful adventure” she has had with her husband over the past ten years, and she thanked God for his redeeming grace and all of his blessings along the way.
