We have learned from the actress herself that she believed working on By the Sea together would actually help them communicate better and eventually save their marriage. Obviously, that was not the case!
Despite the fact that the announcement of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt splitting shocked everyone, it turns out that it happened only after they tried to work through their problems.
While being a guest on a podcast, Jolie opened up about her failed marriage with Brad.
‘We’d met working together, and we worked together well,’ Jolie started, referring to the fact that they met on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith back in 2005.
‘I wanted us to do some more serious work together. I thought it’d be a good way for us to communicate,’ she added.
Sadly for the entire family however, shooting the 2015 film together did not turn out to have the results she expected.
‘In some ways it was, and in some ways we learned some things. But there was heaviness probably during that situation that carried on and it was not because of the film. It was something that we were dealing… things happen for different reasons … why did I write that exact piece? Why did we feel that way when we made it? I am not sure,’ Jolie explained.
The Hollywood star was candid about their struggles with different complications during their time together, mentioning that her mother passed away in the span of the ten years plus relationship.
Aside from the huge loss, Jolie’s health was not the greatest either – she had a mastectomy and even an ovarian cancer scare.
It sounds like all of these things weighed on their marriage throughout the years.
However, despite the fact that the movie was not able to save their relationship, Jolie still looks back at it with fondness.
‘A piece of art can be something that is healing or something that is difficult. I do not know. I am glad we did that film because we explored something together. Whatever it was maybe it did not solve certain things, but we did communicate something that needed to be communicated to each other.’
