Angelina Jolie was involved in a plot to capture African notorious warlord Joseph Kony. The actress agreed when she was asked by Luis Moreno Ocampo during his time at the International Criminal Court (ICC) to act as bait in the real-life attempt to lure the guerilla leader.
Kony became one of the most wanted men for several years for alleged murder, enslavement, and rape.
He kidnapped thousands of children and forced them to join his army. Currently, the Ugandan government said that his forces are no longer a threat.
According to the former ICC chief prosecutor, Angie was willing to draw out the leader of Lord’s Resistance Army from his hideout.
In a leaked email obtained by Mediapart, Ocampo claimed that Angie would get help from her famous husband, Brad Pitt.
‘Forget other celebrities, she is the one,’ he wrote. ‘She loves to arrest Kony. She is ready. Probably Brad will go also.’
American troops were allegedly involved in their plot as well. The Argentine lawyer wrote to Jolie, ‘Apparently you can be embedded with the special forces that are chasing Kony. Can Brad go with you?’
She replied, ‘Brad is being supportive. Let’s discuss logistics. Much love Xxx.’
It’s not very clear why the plot didn’t go ahead, but Ocampo remained infatuated with Angelina since their meeting back in 2009.
After she released her movie In the Land of Blood and Honey back in 2011, he wrote to her, ‘I am in LA and I watched the movie again (4th time) … you are a genius. You did exactly what you said: a love story showing the war horrors. xx Luis.’
He wrote in another email, ‘Dear Angie, I hope you are well. I miss you,’ but he didn’t get an answer.
When he heard that she got sick, he sent another email to her assistant, ‘I realize how much I love her.’ The assistant replied to him, and she informed him that Angelina had changed her email address.
