While Warner Bros. and J.K. Rowling stand by their decision to cast Johnny Depp in the sequel for Fantastic Beasts despite his domestic abuse scandal, it looks like his ex is not over the moon about it. Amber Heard took to social media to share her dismay shortly after the announcement.
As a new and safer era is starting in Hollywood, following abuse victims’ decision to speak out, Heard is still waiting for her pain to be acknowledged by the film industry.
The woman shared her thoughts on her allegedly abusive ex having such a significant production in the works while other men in positions of power who committed crimes against women, such as the notorious Harvey Weinstein, have lost their jobs.
Depp is set to play the title role in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, and creator J.K. Rowling, Director David Yates, and Warner Bros. have recently defended their decision to recast him.
The actress posted the divorce statement of both her and Johnny, captioning it: ‘For the record, this was our FULL joint statement. To pick and choose certain lines and quote them out of context, isn’t right. Women, stay strong.’
The tweet was clearly a dig at the production company who used the convenient parts of their joint divorce statement in order to defend their decision to continue their work with Depp.
It definitely sounds like Amber is suggesting that even though this year many victims’ voices were finally heard, we still have a long way to go until finally feeling safe in Hollywood.
The fact that her story was not acknowledged when Depp was cast in the movie proves justice is still far away.
Do you think Johnny should have been recast or not?
