Amal Clooney arrived on the arm of her husband, George Clooney, to the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and was one of the most stylish guests at the event. The human rights lawyer turned heads as she showed off her slender figure in a custom mustard yellow dress from designer Stella McCartney. She also wore a matching fascinator with netting, some Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, and a full face of Charlotte Tilbury makeup.
Meanwhile, George wore a fitted gray suit with a light blue shirt and yellow striped tie. The couple joined other celebrities like Elton John, Serena Williams, David and Victoria Beckham, Oprah Winfrey, Idris Elba, Priyanka Chopra, and James Corden at the star-studded event.
But, it wasn’t just the Clooney’s’ fame that scored them an invite. According to reports, Amal and the new Duchess of Sussex forged a “natural friendship” after she moved to the UK. And now, the British-Lebanese beauty is doing what she can to help Markle feel comfortable as she adjusts to her new life as a royal.
“Meghan and Amal have known each other for a while [and share] many interests,” says an insider. “Amal has been helping Meghan settle into London life. It was a very natural friendship from day one.”
A mutual friend introduced Markle to the Clooneys when she moved to England, and the 57-year-old actor made sure that everyone had a good time at the reception. According to The Daily Mail, George hopped behind the bar and poured Casamigos – his own brand of booze. Sources say the Oceans 11 star was determined to keep the drinks flowing and get everyone dancing.
In addition to getting help from Mrs. Clooney, Markle will also have support from Samantha Cohen, Prince Harry’s closest aide. Before their May 19th wedding, Cohen helped Markle with protocol at royal events like the Commonwealth meeting in April.
The Duchess of Sussex's wedding dress has been designed by the acclaimed British designer, Clare Waight Keller. Ms. Waight Keller last year became the first female Artistic Director at the historic French fashion house Givenchy. Ms. Markle expressed the wish of having all 53 countries of the Commonwealth with her on her journey through the ceremony. Ms. Waight Keller designed a veil representing the distinctive flora of each Commonwealth country united in one spectacular floral composition #RoyalWedding
Cohen also has the task of helping Markle carve out a role she is happy with so doesn’t “go crazy” says the insider. She is Queen Elizabeth’s former assistant private secretary, so Cohen does have experience with managing palace conflict and the media. And, as the Queen’s former press secretary, she also has a good working relationship with the British press.
In October, Cohen will also assist the new couple as they travel to Sydney, Australia, for their first major foreign trip, which they based around the Invictus Games.
Amal Clooney and Meghan Markle have not commented on their friendship.
