On February 14, 2018, actor and musician Alexander Polinsky and Nicole Eggert held a joint press conference with their attorney Lisa Bloom where they publicly announced their allegations of sexual harassment, child abuse, and sexual molestation against Scott Baio. Baio was the star and director of the show Polinsky and Eggert worked on as children: Charles in Charge. According to Eggert, Baio sexually abused her between the ages of 15 and 17. Alexander Polinsky states Scott Baio began emotionally and verbally abusing him at the age of 12 after he walked in on Baio molesting Eggert. Scott Baio has denied the allegations and has said he will sue both Polinsky and Eggert for defamation.
In the press conference that you may see below, one of the journalists who were in attendance asked Alex Polinsky if any adults had ever tried to intervene or provide protection for the kids who were being abused.
Alex Polinsky shook his head no in apparent exasperation while Nicole Eggert addressed the question. Alexander Polinsky also revealed that his parents and other adults knew about the alleged abuse.
You may fast forward the video below to 16:40 to hear the journalist ask the question and listen to Alexander Polinsky’s and Nicole Eggert’s responses.
Not only did Alex Polinsky answer the question but in the beginning portion of the press conference, he stated that adults who worked on Charles in Charge were also aware of the abuse. You may begin the video at 3:33 to hear the remarks.
Alexander Polinsky stated the following.
“The abuse continued through the run of the show. The adults around me on set were aware of these things but were too scared of losing a job on a hit show to act.”
In addition to the adults on the show who Alexander Polinsky states witnessed Scott Baio’s alleged acts of abuse against him, he also specifically said his parents knew.
Alexander Polinsky continued with his statement.
“My parents — they gave me two options: quit or stick it out.”
Nicole Eggert backed up Alexander Polinsky’s statement and said there were approximately one dozen witnesses to the alleged abuse who worked on the show. Lisa Bloom stated she gave a list of witnesses to the LAPD who is currently investigating the allegations.
Alexander Polinsky has called for greater protections for children whether they are in athletics, modeling or work in the entertainment industry. He has asked the public to contact their representatives in light of the widespread pandemic of child abuse currently in America and demand safety for children.
(Charisse Van Horn and Alexander Polinsky personally follow each other on Twitter and have spoken to each other in the past, but not about the Scott Baio case. She has also tweeted in the past messages of support for Nicole Eggert to come forward and tell her story. She does her best to be fair and balanced and present all sides of the case. Scott Baio denies all allegations of child abuse against him.)
