We finally have our real-life Mulan! After a long worldwide search for the perfect actress to take on the colossal role, Disney has finally announced that the leading lady for the upcoming live-action Mulan film is none other than Chinese actress Liu Yifei!
Yifei is also known as Crystal Liu as well as ‘Fairy Sister’ in China – a nickname she got thanks to her angelic appearance and grace.
Aside from her acting career, the star is also an established model and singer.
At the age of 11, Yifei and her mother moved to New York only to return to China in 2002 in order to pursue acting in her native land.
A couple of her most recent movies are The Chinese Widow and Once Upon a Time, which earned no less than $82.3 million in China this past summer when it came out.
Liu is an ambassador for huge brand names such as Pantene, Tissot, Garnier, and Dior as well.
The actress is the very first one to be cast in the exciting Disney live-action which is reportedly set to be directed by Nikki Caro, who you might know from the recent project The Zookeeper’s Wife.
In addition, in April, the voice actress who portrayed the animated Mulan, Ming-Na Wen, revealed that she might get to also be involved in the live-action film.
‘I would love to have a part in it in some way. We will see – knock on wood!’ she confessed.
What do you think about the actress Disney chose to play Mulan in the live-action movie? Is she perfect for the role or did you have someone else in mind?
