Abdellatif Kechiche, the director of the critically acclaimed, Blue Is The Warmest Color, was accused by an actress of sexual assault in France. Following a complaint levied by a 29-year-old woman, the police launched an investigation into the revered director’s behavior.
According to multiple reports, Kechiche met up with the anonymous actress on the 23rd of June in an apartment building while he was having dinner with a friend.
The woman says she was drinking with the Kechiche and his friend when she suddenly blacked out and then awoke to find Kechiche fondling her. The director has denied all of the allegations through his attorney-at-law, Jeremy Assous.
Currently, he’s in the middle of filming a sequel for his movie, Mektoub, my Love: Canto Due. This won’t be the first time Abedallatif has faced allegations of misconduct, however, the nature of the charges have changed.
Lea Seydoux and Adele Exarchopolous claimed in 2013 that he was volatile on set and his methods were unorthodox – bordering on abusive. Moreover, technicians complained about the way he worked, which was aggressive and demanding.

Kechiche is the third big-time director to face allegations of sexual misconduct in France, alongside Gerald Depardieu and Luc Besson. Besson, in particular, has a long history of controversies attached to his name.
His classic movie, Leon The Professional, while achieving legendary status as a cult-film, was criticized by the leading actress, Natalie Portman, who claims to have been sent letters by pedophiliac men. Natalie has since expressed regret for starring in it.
Some have argued that the movie normalizes the relationship between prepubescent girls and adults. Luc also directed the Bruce Willis action flick, The Fifth Element. Nevertheless, the accusations against prolific figures in the entertainment industry have almost been a global phenomenon.
The Harvey Weinstein allegations which kicked off the #MeToo movement in October 2017, caused a ripple effect and even figures in Scandinavian countries have faced sexual misconduct controversies. Recently, #MeToo movements have begun on a smaller scale in nations like Brazil.
