Fans of 13 Reasons Why were pretty curious to know how a second installment of the popular show would look like when Netflix announced it was renewed for season 2. It seemed impossible to further the story considering the season finale and the fact that the main character Hanna Baker was dead.
However, it turns out that the actors in the series never doubted they’d return for at least another season.
Alisha Boe, who plays Jessica, told E! News that ‘I felt like there were many questions left unanswered at the end of season 1. A lot of people said that Hannah’s tapes are done, but I really wanted to see—well, I’m biased, but I really wanted to see everyone else’s story and really explore Jessica’s storyline more.’
Meanwhile, Alex, played by Miles Heizer was critically wounded by a gunshot in the first season’s finale.
The actor agreed with Alisha, telling the publication: ‘I think that there were questions that were not answered and I think it is cool we get to answer those for many people and kind of also see the effects of everyone’s actions for the first season and see how they continue to affect these characters over time.’
Co-star Ross Butler added: ‘It’s the fallout of what happens. I wanted to see how all of these characters dealt with guilt, if it was guilt, or recovery in your guys’ case, especially, and just paint the full picture and fill in the gaps so that everyone could see the full story.’
Butler went on to admit that the continuation felt very natural.
‘I think it was an organic follow-up. In real life, if this had happened, of course, the Bakers would try to find out who is accountable. It wasn’t surprising.’
